Set up Meta in Shopify

This guide explains how to set up the Facebook & Instagram by Meta sales channel in Shopify so your products, data, and ad accounts connect correctly.

Complete all steps before continuing with onboarding in Marketer.


Step 1: Install the Facebook & Instagram sales channel

  1. Log in to Shopify Admin

  2. Go to Settings → Apps and sales channels

  3. Click Add sales channel

  4. Search for Facebook & Instagram

  5. Select Facebook & Instagram by Meta

  6. Click Add channel


Step 2: Start setup and connect your Facebook account

  1. Open the Facebook & Instagram sales channel in Shopify

  2. Click Start setup

  3. Click Connect account

  4. Log in with your personal Facebook account

Important:
This Facebook user must have full control of the Meta Business Portfolio and Facebook Page.


Step 3: Connect Meta business assets

During setup, connect the following assets:

  • Facebook Page (used for ads and shop)

  • Meta Business Portfolio

  • Facebook Ad Account

Make sure all selected assets belong to the same Business Portfolio.


Step 4: Set up the product catalog

The sales channel automatically creates one product catalog that is used for:

  • Facebook Shop

  • Instagram Shopping

  • Meta advertising

Your Shopify products will sync to this catalog automatically.
No manual product upload is required.


Step 5: Configure data sharing settings

  1. In the Facebook & Instagram channel, go to Settings

  2. Open Data sharing settings

  3. Enable data sharing

  4. Select Maximum customer data-sharing level

This allows Meta to receive the most complete event data, which improves:

  • Conversion tracking

  • Ad optimization

  • Retargeting accuracy


Step 6: Complete setup

  1. Review the setup summary

  2. Accept all required terms and conditions

  3. Finish the setup

Once completed, the channel status should show as Connected.


Before moving on

Confirm the following:

  • Facebook & Instagram sales channel is installed

  • Status shows Connected

  • Products are syncing to the catalog

  • Data sharing is set to Maximum


Important notes

  • Your Facebook user must have full control of:

    • Meta Business Portfolio

    • Facebook Page

    • Ad Account

  • All products must comply with Meta Commerce Policies

  • Restricted or unverified businesses may be blocked from completing setup
