Can't connect Google to Marketer?

If you’re unable to connect Google to Marketer, it’s usually due to missing required elements or account mismatches between Google, Shopify, and Marketer.

Use the steps below to identify and fix the issue.


Required before connecting

To successfully connect Google, you must:

  • Use your own Google Ads / Merchant Center / Analytics accounts

  • Be logged into the same Google account across all platforms

  • Complete all required fields during setup

If any required element is missing, the connection will not save.


Missing square logo (required)

Google requires a square logo to complete the connection.
If no logo is uploaded, the setup will fail silently and not save.

How to fix it

  • Upload a square-format logo during the Google connection flow

Recommended format

  • Size: 1080 × 1080 px (any square between 128–2048 px works)

  • Format: PNG or JPG

Without a square logo, the Google connection cannot be completed.


Can’t select Merchant Center or Analytics

If your Merchant Center or Google Analytics account does not appear in the dropdown, this is almost always an account mismatch issue.


Step 1: Confirm Google account login

Make sure you are logged into the correct Google account when connecting Google to Marketer.

This must be the same Google account used for:

  • Shopify

  • Google & YouTube app

  • Merchant Center

  • Google Analytics

If you have multiple Google accounts, log out and sign in again with the correct one.


Step 2: Verify accounts connected in Shopify

Marketer relies on the same Google accounts connected in Shopify.

How to check

  1. Go to Shopify Admin

  2. Open Sales Channels → Google & YouTube

  3. Check which:

    • Merchant Center account is connected

    • Google Analytics account is connected

These must match the accounts you are selecting in Marketer.

If they don’t match:

  • Switch to the correct Google account, or

  • Update the connected accounts inside Shopify


Step 3: Retry the connection

After confirming:

  • Correct Google account login

  • Square logo uploaded

  • Matching Merchant Center and Analytics accounts

Retry connecting Google in Marketer.


Quick checklist

Before retrying, confirm:

  • You are using your own Google accounts

  • A square logo is uploaded

  • You are logged into the same Google account across Shopify and Marketer

  • Merchant Center and Analytics in Shopify match what you select in Marketer


Still not working?

If the connection still fails:

  • Reconnect Google inside Shopify’s Google & YouTube app

  • Refresh the page and try again

  • Wait a short period and retry (Google permissions can take time to propagate)
